After completing his studies, Louis transferred with honors from Rio Hondo College to the University of Southern California where he received a Bachelor of Science in Public Policy and Management.
An active participant in our community, Louis is known for his integrity, commitment and hard work. He serves on the board of directors for Plaza de la Raza Child Development Services, a $20 million dollar budget preschool nonprofit with 30 schools. He is the founding member and chair of the Angel Step Inn Domestic Violence Resource Center's Community Advisory Committee. He served on the board of the California Latino Caucus Institute, where he was the co-chair and founding member of the Madrinas Padrinos Leadership Program for eight years. In addition, he served for six years as an Executive Officer of California Democratic Party as director of region 15.
Louis brings with him the passion, skills and history of advocacy on behalf of Rio Hondo. For over ten years, he has volunteered his time to provide support to the college. In 2002, he served as a member of the Rio Hondo Area Latino Education Council, which promoted efforts to increase the awareness of higher educational opportunities for our students. In 2004, he served on the campaign advisory committee for the Measure A, a $245 million construction bond that was passed by the voters. He is currently a member of the recently formed Rio Hondo College Alumni Association.
Knowing the value of a good education at Rio Hondo College, Louis is just one of many successes in his family that are also alumni. The college has provided his family a pathway for educational growth and financial success by producing two teachers, an education researcher and a firefighter. Keeping with the family tradition, Louis' niece recently enrolled in summer classes at Rio Hondo College as a high school student.
The son of Mexican immigrants, Louis is the eldest of eight brothers and sisters. He has lived in the Whittier area for over 20 years and currently lives with his wife in the city of Pico Rivera. He owns Blue Icon Media, an Internet communications and marketing business. He is also a district representative on education, business, and budgetary issues for State Senator Ronald Calderon of the 30th District.
